CLASS TITLE: VEHICLE MECHANIC I
(Mechanic)
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High School diploma or equivalent
2. Experience in the field of truck/bus vehicle maintenance.
3. State Certified Bus Inspector Certification.
4. CDL with passenger endorsement.
5. Such additional qualifications as the Superintendent or Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS: Director of Transportation/Head Mechanic
SUPERVISES: Not Applicable
JOB GOAL: To provide the work necessary to keep the District’s vehicles and equipment in proper operating condition to prevent problems or interruptions to the educational program
BASIC FUNCTION: Perform mechanical repair work, including preventative maintenance on school buses, trucks, and other gas and diesel powered automotive equipment as assigned.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Diagnoses and repairs district school buses, trucks, and other equipment under the supervision of the Head Mechanic.

Carries out a system of routine vehicle maintenance, preventive care, and assists with record keeping, and other duties as assigned.

Attends required meetings, training classes and seminars as directed by the Director of Transportation.

Assists in maintaining a safe, orderly, efficient clean garage and grounds.

Drives and tests school buses and provides emergency road service to disabled buses and vehicles as needed.

Assumes the role and duties of the Head Mechanic during any extended absence of the supervisor as directed by the Director of Transportation.
7. Checks road conditions during inclement weather to insure the safety and
welfare of the students as deemed necessary.
8. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Transportation, Head Mechanic or the Superintendent. |
