CLASS TITLE: BUS MONITOR-EXCEPTIONAL CHILD
(Bus Monitor – Special Education))
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must meet Physical Performance Requirements.
- Such additional qualifications as the Superintendent or
Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS: Director of Transportation
SUPERVISES: Not Applicable
JOB GOAL: To assist bus driver in ensuring the safe transportation of exceptional children.
BASIC FUNCTION: Ride a school bus for exceptional children and assist school bus driver in maintaining discipline while bus is in operation; operate mechanical lift.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists exceptional children on and off the bus and escorts children across street upon return home; lifts children as required; assures responsible adults meet students leaving the bus.
- Operates equipment, including wheelchairs, tie-downs, seat belts, harnesses, mechanical lift, and other adaptive equipment as necessary.
- Assists driver in assuring seat belts, harnesses, and wheel chair clamps are secured as required.
- Assists parent and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students; coordinates seating of exceptional students as required by State Transportation Guidelines.
- Coordinates communication between field drivers’ monitor office and mechanical staff.
- Consults with and assists bus driver in documentation of student information, record keeping, and completing route surveys.
- Attends meetings and training courses as assigned.
- Monitors and assists students while bus is in operation; and communicates with classroom aides, teachers, Principals, and parents concerning students background, medical problems, and behavior while under supervision on the bus.
- Provides and performs student health services as directed by Supervisor after receiving appropriate training as required by law.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Transportation or Superintendent.
TERM OF SERVICE: Salary and workdays/jobs to be established by the Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with
provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified
Personnel.
