SUBSTITUTE BUS MONITOR-EXCEPTIONAL CHILD

                                                (Bus Monitor – Special Education)

 

 QUALIFICATIONS:           

      1. High School diploma or equivalent.

      2.  Must meet Physical Performance Requirements.

      3.  Such additional qualifications as the Superintendent or

            Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

REPORTS:                               Director of Transportation

 

SUPERVISES:                        Not Applicable

 

JOB GOAL:                              To assist bus driver in ensuring the safe transportation of exceptional children.

 

BASIC FUNCTION:                 Ride a school bus for exceptional children and assist school bus driver in maintaining discipline while bus is in operation; operate mechanical lift.

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Assists exceptional children on and off the bus and escorts children across street upon return home; lifts children as required; assures responsible adults meet students leaving the bus.
  2. Operates equipment, including wheelchairs, tie-downs, seat belts, harnesses, mechanical lift, and other adaptive equipment as necessary.
  3. Assists driver in assuring seat belts, harnesses, and wheel chair clamps are secured as required.
  4. Assists parent and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students; coordinates seating of exceptional students as required by State Transportation Guidelines.
  5. Coordinates communication between field drivers’ monitor office and mechanical staff.
  6. Consults with and assists bus driver in documentation of student information, record keeping, and completing route surveys.
  7. Attends meetings and training courses as assigned.
  8. Monitors and assists students while bus is in operation; and communicates with classroom aides, teachers, Principals, and parents concerning students background, medical problems, and behavior while under supervision on the bus.
  9. Provides and performs student health services as directed by Supervisor after receiving appropriate training as required by law.
  10. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Transportation or Superintendent.

 TERM OF SERVICE:  Salary and workdays/jobs to be established by the Board.

                                       provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified

                                       Personnel.
